Open femoral fracture in a young dog

December 28, 2016

Great to see Grinner on fine form this Christmas! Grinner is a dear little chap we operated on earlier in the year for an open fracture to the right femur. His fracture configuration was such that we elected to place an intra-medullary rod in addition to a 3.5mm locking-compression plate. Despite needing to remove the rod early due to irritation of the sciatic nerve Grinner never looked back. Although Grinner had an open fracture we felt rigid stability was more important than considering an external device such as an external skeletal fixator. We know how much his Mum and all the family have been looking after him and it is great to see him do so well! So watch out world, it looks like Grinner will be back to his mischievous best for 2017!! 🙂
